CHRISTMAS CAROLS WITH A DIFFERENCE

More of a show than a sing-a-long (although lyrics are highlighted on stage if you do want to sing), South Bank’s Christmas Carols is an event for all ages.

It’s refreshing to see a producer embrace the multiculturalism that is Brisbane — something that is rare for large-scale Christmas carol productions in the river city.

One of the most memorable numbers was the Little Drummer Boy. Coordinated African drummers and a solo male African dancer made the rendition of the famous carol so powerful, I heard audience members audibly gasp and mutter things like “wow, that was amazing!’.

Other wow factors include an aerial artist on silks, and a pretty ballet number. Of course, all the singers were exceptional too.

If you are looking for Christmas carols with a difference, head down to South Bank’s Courier Mail Piazza. Their last show is December 22. And just to top off the night, you can also watch the free Christmas fireworks on the river bank at 7.45pm!
