OLIVER'S BIGGER AND BLACKER
Star of ABC’s Black Comedy, Steven Oliver’s new cabaret Bigger and Blacker is a humorous and touching experience.
Oliver’s ability to entertain while bearing his soul is the mark of a true cabaret artist. Using a variety of different mediums—from pop to tap dance moves and poetry to rap—he takes the audience on a rollercoaster of life milestones giving insight into his life as a gay Aboriginal along the way.
All the songs have been courageously written by Oliver, which allows his comedic flair and vulnerability to shine through.
He is expertly accompanied by his old pal, cabaret artist Michael Griffiths, on vocals and piano, and the two work wonderfully together under the direction of Isaac Drandic.
Oliver’s eclectic background has seen him work on many theatre, television, and web productions as an actor, writer, singer, song writer, and producer. Some of these include ABC’s Tiger Cops (TV series) and A Very Sexy Christmas (TV special), A Chance Affair (web series), From Darkness (play), Looky Looky Here Comes Cooky (award winning documentary) and Thor: Ragnarok (film).
So whether you are one of the many fans of Steven Oliver (as there were in the audience last night) or a newcomer to his work, come and laugh, be moved, and be inspired. You may even learn a thing or two!
Bigger and Blacker will be showing at La Boite Theatre until 27 March 2021.
