ANGEL MONSTER − MONSTER HIT!

Angel Monster

Fresh from an interstate tour, the award winning Phluxus2 Dance Collective bring their new provocative work, Angel Monster, to this year’s Supercell Festival of Contemporary Dance.

This beautiful yet confronting dance theatre piece expresses the experience of being a woman in 2019 and their reaction to the movements of #metoo and #idon’tneedfeminismbecause.

Images and stories are cleverly woven together by the Artistic Director and Choreographer Nerida Mattheai using dance, theatre, music by Andrew Mills, and visual art and props to convey powerful messages. The use of the clothing was particularly effective, portraying barriers, baggage, links, pathways and a means to audience participation.

With an absence of formal seating arrangements, the audience were free to view the performance in the round ensuring a unique vantage and experience for each person.

The dancers Hsin-Ju Ely, Lauren Graham, Essie Horn, Lauren Sherlock and Chiu-Ju Wang were exceptional, not only in their virtuosic movement abilities but in their ability to embody a multitude of emotional states.

Angel Monster is a brilliant piece of contemporary art and I hope it will return for another season in Brisbane soon!
