BRISBANE GETS KINKY

Brisbane finally joined the glitter fest with the much anticipated arrival of Kinky Boots.

An analogy for boots, the cast comes in all shapes and sizes: tall, short, wide, skinny, and er, not so skinny. This in itself is worth pointing out because commercial productions rarely embrace diversity on stage. But this is precisely what Kinky Boots is about: accepting everyone for who they are.

Based on a true story, Charlie Price reluctantly takes on his late father’s shoe factory in Northampton, England. A chance run-in with drag queen, Lola, turns into an unusual business opportunity that saves the factory from closing down.

The show has many ‘wow’ moments including strong musical numbers, flawless character acting, and best of all, dance numbers that would bring a tear to any stiletto-wearing person’s eye. It’s fair to say only a person who wears high heels can appreciate the difficulty factor in the moves performed by the chorus line.

With music by Cyndi Lauper and lots of laugh-out loud scenes, Kinky Boots is a musical for all ages.

Showing at QPAC's Lyric Theatre until 22 October 2017.
